Our Aims

OUR MISSION

Babylon Project is a Community Interest Company which runs creative activities by and for young people from refugee, asylum seeking and migrant backgrounds. We provide a safe and welcoming environment in which young people can take part in creative activities such as drama, storytelling, film-making and art. Our activities aim to address the disadvantage and exclusion experienced by refugees and asylum seekers living in the UK, boosting young people’s confidence and providing them with the necessary tools to express themselves. Our mission is to enable integration into life in the UK, by boosting young people’s confidence and providing them with the necessary tools to express themselves. We aim to help young refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to find community through creativity, gain creative skills, gain confidence expressing themselves and telling their stories, and build bridges with British young people.

OUR AIMS

Babylon Project came from the realisation that there are a large number of young asylum seekers, refugees and migrants who have no real provision. In 2021 there were 3,762 asylum claims from unaccompanied children, a 36% increase on 2020. As of June 2022, over 120,000 people were waiting on asylum decisions, with thousands of young people being kept isolated from society in hotels while their claims are processed. Our activities aim to address the disadvantage and exclusion experienced by refugees and asylum seekers living in the UK, giving them a place where they can make friends, gain skills, and feel like they belong. We have seen from our participants’ feedback just how vital this can be.

OUR IMPACT

Established in October 2022, Babylon Project has already made a significant impact in empowering young people through creative and communitybuilding activities. With partners and collaborators such as Safe Passage, Red Cross, Little Amal, Fences and Frontiers, Dost, and Compass Collective, we have collectively run over 60 workshops, reaching over 550 participants. These workshops have provided valuable opportunities for personal growth, collaboration, and self-expression among young people from diverse backgrounds. We been invited to represent Babylon Project at conferences such as Human Rights Watch, Locality and London Youth. We performed parkour with Shubbak Festival at the National Theatre’s River Stage. In addition, we have run 15 independent workshops in photography, art, storytelling, poetry and theatre, reaching 60 participants. These workshops have helped young people develop their skills and interests in a supportive and inclusive environment, boosting their confidence and sense of accomplishment.
